Questions before you begin

Editorial assessment FAQs

Is this the same as developmental editing?

No. An assessment diagnoses the manuscript and provides a revision strategy; developmental editing works through the manuscript in substantially greater depth.

Will you edit the manuscript itself?

The main deliverable is the assessment report, though selected passages may be annotated to demonstrate recurring issues.

Can I upgrade to editing later?

Yes. The assessment can become the foundation for a later developmental or line-editing scope.

What condition should my manuscript be in?

A complete or substantially complete draft is ideal. It does not need to be polished, but the full shape of the book should be available for review.

How long will my assessment report be?

Report length varies with the manuscript and agreed scope. Your proposal confirms the deliverables and review schedule before work begins.
